Undead Labs has announced that State of Decay 3 will enter its alpha testing phase, with the first round of community playtests scheduled to begin in May 2026.
The update was shared through an official video message, where a developer addressed the community directly. In the announcement, Brant Fitzgerald said, “starting next month, we’ll be hosting a series of alpha playtests with the community,” confirming that players can now register for a chance to participate.
The studio emphasized that community feedback has played a central role in shaping the sequel. Fitzgerald noted that the team has been closely monitoring player responses to State of Decay 2, including feedback shared on platforms like Discord and gameplay content online.
While specific details remain limited, the alpha is expected to include several core features. Fitzgerald stated that the test “will feature 4-player co-op, some new base building and resource strategies, and a whole lot of combat,” giving an early indication of the direction for the next entry.
Players who are not selected for the initial round may still have additional opportunities later in the year, as Undead Labs plans to continue expanding access over time.
State of Decay 3 is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and cloud platforms, with a Day One release planned for Xbox Game Pass. A full release date has not yet been confirmed, though further updates are expected in the coming months.
