State of Decay 3 Features In-Game Cinematics, Undead Labs Collaborating With Other XGS Teams
State of Decay 3 will feature in-game cinematics, and developer Undead Labs is collaborating with other XGS teams for animation work.
According to the LinkedIn profile of senior cinematic artist at Undead Labs, Alan Diekfuss, State of Decay 3 will feature in-game cinematics as opposed to pre-rendered ones.
In addition, the LinkedIn profile of Simon Sherr, director of animation and technology at Undead Labs, reveals that Microsoft is developing a new studio under Undead Labs in Orlando, Florida. In addition to working on animation technology in Unreal Engine 5 for State of Decay 3, this new team is fostering cross-studio animation technology collaboration and animation technology initiatives across Xbox Game Studios.
Previously, it was also revealed that Undead Labs and The Coalition have been working together to incorporate Gears of War technology related to Unreal Engine 5 into State of Decay 3. Speaking during Major Nelson’s podcast on Gamescom and PAX, vice president Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty discussed that Undead Labs has been collaborating with the Unreal Engine 5 experts at The Coalition to incorporate some of the technology that went into the development of Gears of War titles into State of Decay 3. He added that he spent all day at Undead Labs in Seattle last week to get the latest update on the progress of State of Decay 3’s development.
Matt also mentioned that State of Decay 2 continues to grow its user base, and the game has now reached a new milestone, having crossed 11 million life to date players. The things Undead Labs has been doing with State of Decay 2 since its release are essentially the test bed for things that will go into State of Decay 3.
State of Decay 3 is the latest entry in the State of Decay series. It is a third-person zombie survival game with an emphasis on scavenging for items. The game has cooperative gameplay with up to three other players and is set in an open world.
