Sony has officially confirmed a new State of Play presentation set to air on June 4, 2025. With more than 40 minutes of announcements promised, speculation has reached a fever pitch regarding what games might appear. A series of compelling leaks and social media activity from developers and insiders has sparked rumors surrounding several high-profile titles. These range from long-awaited remasters to new entries in beloved franchises, with Final Fantasy Tactics, God of War, and Persona 4 among the highlights.
The most significant and unexpected development centers on the Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster, which has resurfaced through a string of hints from key individuals. Yasumi Matsuno, the director and writer of the original title, briefly retweeted PlayStation Japan’s State of Play announcement before deleting the post. Matsuno, now leading Algebra Factory, has a history of collaborating with Square Enix, prompting speculation that he may be involved in a remaster. Further stirring discussion, a Square Enix senior manager posted an exuberant tweet about the event, later editing it to reference Syphon Filter, and several Square Enix representatives from Latin America also shared the announcement. Most notably, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier indirectly confirmed the project by praising Final Fantasy Tactics and following up with the word “Remaster.”
Another major rumor involves a God of War spin-off currently in development. Insiders Tom Henderson and Jeff Grubb have reported on a new project that diverges from the mainline series. The game is said to adopt a 2.5D Metroidvania style, possibly drawing inspiration from titles like Blasphemous. It will explore Kratos’ early years in ancient Greece and is believed to feature the return of Deimos, his long-absent brother. Santa Monica Studio is reportedly overseeing the project, with Mega Cat Studios potentially assisting in development.
The existence of a Persona 4 Remake appears all but confirmed after voice actors associated with the original game began commenting on their absence from the project. Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Yosuke, publicly revealed that he will not be reprising his role despite expressing interest. His remarks, echoed by Erin Fitzgerald (voice of Chie Satonaka), strongly suggest that the remake is in development without the original English voice cast.
One of the most anticipated indie sequels, Hollow Knight: Silksong, may also be reemerging. Steam backend activity for the game was updated on May 31 for the first time in over 15 months. While no changes are visible on the public store page, the timing—just ahead of major events like the State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Games Showcase—suggests that Team Cherry could be preparing for a trailer or release date reveal.
In addition to these titles, credible leaker Dusk Golem has reported that Bloober Team is working on a Born From A Wish DLC for the recently released Silent Hill 2 Remake. This content is rumored to be scheduled for release before the end of 2025, providing additional narrative depth to the remake.
While not expected at the State of Play, Resident Evil 9 is rumored to make its debut at Summer Game Fest on June 6. According to ScreenFire Germany, the game will likely launch in early 2026, aligning with Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary. Capcom’s investor reports have also hinted that no major new release is anticipated before the end of its current financial quarter.
Lastly, Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup, including Splinter Cell Remake, may be part of Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. A leaker known as Drinking Horchata suggested that Ubisoft is strengthening its partnership with Xbox, planning to bring several of its new titles to Game Pass, with Splinter Cell Remake potentially being one of the headline reveals.
