Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sucker Punch’s upcoming action-adventure game, Ghost of Yotei, will push innovation on both creative and technical fronts, according to producer Brain Fleming.
During a ‘Creator to Creator’ interview with Astro Bot director Nicolas Doucet on Sony’s official YouTube Channel, Sucker Punch producer Brian Fleming was asked about the knowledge and lessons learned during the development of Ghost of Tsushima, and how much it is changing the way the studio is approaching the development of the next entry. In response, Fleming said that each game is building off the work done on the previous one.

Regarding Sucker Punch’s upcoming title, Ghost of Yotei, Fleming mentioned that the studio is looking to push for innovation, both creatively and technically as storytellers and artists. He added that the development team thought about where it could go next. The studio didn’t want to chase trends and do things that everybody else was doing, yet, at the same time, it also wanted to do something that was a progression from where it had been.
When asked to comment on something that sticks out to him about Ghost of Tsushima, Fleming said that there’s one singular moment in the game that Sucker Punch figured out late into development. It’s the moment when the protagonist Jin Sakai gets on his horse after the intro sequence and goes through a forest. It’s at this point that control is handed over to the player. Then, as Jin rides through, there’s a clearing, and then the game opens up. Fleming mentioned that both the music and the lighting are timed to go with this moment, and the VFX are set up to give the player a huge sense of freedom. This is when the game’s logo appears on-screen.
Ghost of Yotei is set for release exclusively on PS5 sometime in 2025.
