It’s interesting to note that the original Super Mario RPG on the SNES had sold 200,000 units in its launch month. Going by these early pre-orders for the Switch remake, it appears that it will easily surpass the aforementioned sales figure.

Released in 1996, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a role-playing game developed by Square and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The game marked the final Mario installment to be released on the SNES platform. Directed by Chihiro Fujioka and Yoshihiko Maekawa, produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, and featuring a score by Yoko Shimomura, Super Mario RPG captivated players with its captivating storyline.

Super Mario RPG centers around the heroic endeavors of Mario and his companions as they embark on a quest to vanquish the malevolent Smithy. Having crashed into their world, Smithy has absconded with the seven star pieces from Star Road. Notably, Super Mario RPG stands as the first role-playing game in the Mario franchise, incorporating significant elements from Square’s renowned RPG series, Final Fantasy. The primary method of engaging adversaries entails turn-based combat, with players controlling a party of up to three characters. Additionally, this game pioneered the introduction of isometric 3D environments within the Mario series, offering a fresh perspective on exploration and platforming mechanics synonymous with the Super Mario franchise.
