Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy creative director Tetsuya Nomura may have just teased the final boss redesign in the upcoming Part 3.
The official Instagram account for Final Fantasy VII shared a post in which it unveiled a brand-new illustration for Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy, reflecting Sephiroth’s journey in Final Fantasy VII. It also included comments from illustrator Tetsuya Nomura.

One interesting comment made by Nomura is that there is a reason behind the redesign of Safer Sephiroth, the final boss of Final Fantasy VII, hinting that it may have been done for the upcoming Part 3 of the Remake trilogy. Only time will tell whether this is indeed the case, however.
In December, 2024, during an interview with Famitsu, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth attracted a lot of attention at various awards in 2024. With regards to his aspirations for the next year, he hoped to take on new challenges to further expand the Final Fantasy VII fan base, as he continues to work on the third installment in the Remake trilogy.
Regarding an update on the development of part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Hamaguchi stated that the team, including himself, has been working hard on the game. According to him, development is “progressing smoothly”, though he asked fans to wait a little longer for any new information to be revealed. It makes sense that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director didn’t have much to share on Part 3 at the time, given that it hadn’t even been a year since Rebirth’s release. He had the same update to share during an AMA during the same month, where he said that the third installment is “progressing smoothly”.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is set for release exclusively for PlayStation 5.
