Screenshots from the rumored remastered version of Microsoft and Bethesda Softworks’ action role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, have been leaked, and if you’re wondering how it compares with the original, read ahead.

Improvements featured in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered include a reworked global illumination system, brand new assets, enhanced geometry and textures, increased level of detail, added post-process effects, overhauled foliage, improved shadows and ambient occlusion, and more.

In the above comparison, the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion exhibits a warmer color tint. It also appears to feature a global illumination system with the sun being the primary light source. As a result, there are shadows cast in areas where there are none in the original. Tessellation also appears to be in effect in the remastered version, with the floor surface looking uneven.

As seen in the comparison, character models have received a major facelift in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Materials and shaders now appear to conform to physically-based rendering. Light casts far more accurately on the character in the foreground. The entire scene in the remastered version is comprised of brand new assets, including the building in the rear and the torches at the sides of the bridge.

The two comparisons above highlight a major improvement in sky rendering in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The original seems to use a skybox, while the remastered version appears to have a sky and cloud rendering system in place.
