The next entry in CD Projekt’s The Witcher series, dubbed The Witcher 4, has received a placeholder release date on GOG.
The GOG app has added a store page for The Witcher 4, with a placeholder release date of December 31, 2025. Given how the digital distribution platform is a wholly owned subsidiary of CD Projekt, there is likely some degree of accuracy here, and the game is probably planned for release sometime in the year 2025.
Development on The Witcher 4 is in full swing at CD Projekt. In a news update on its official website back in August, the studio’s CEO Michał Nowakowski had revealed that the development team was, at the time, gearing up to begin the full-fledged production phase of the next entry in The Witcher series (codenamed project Polaris). Nowakowski had stated that work on project Polaris had been coming along well, and its development team was nearing a major milestone which would mark the end of the pre-production phase.
Earlier, during an interview, Sebastian Kalemba, director of the new The Witcher saga, had stated that The Witcher 4 will be an “excellent” entry point for both newcomers and diehard fans of Geralt, suggesting that the protagonist’s story and legacy will continue in some shape or form.
Regarding the creative direction that the new Saga will take, Kalemba mentioned that the development team at CD Projekt Red wants to continue in the same direction it had previously taken. He mentioned that some elements of the lore need to be expanded, though the world and setting remain the same and the creative team can’t go beyond certain limits. He also said that The Witcher 4 will be released many years after the arrival of The Witcher 3. Therefore, he stated that the creative team can’t just target diehard fans and that there is a need to foster a new community, making the game an “excellent” entry point for all players, without forgetting those who are fond of the original trilogy.
