Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis Announced as Series Prepares Catalyst for 2027

Crystal Dynamics has announced Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, a full reimagining of Lara Croft’s original 1996 debut, with the title set for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. The reveal was made during The Game Awards 2025 and marks a return to the roots of the franchise while adopting modern design approaches.

According to the studio’s announcement, the game aims to retain the spirit of the original while updating the experience with contemporary mechanics and a revised visual style supported by Unreal Engine 5. The project is being developed in partnership with Flying Wild Hog and serves as a significant component of the broader celebrations surrounding the series’ 30th anniversary.

The publisher described the reimagining as a chance to revisit Lara Croft’s first adventure with a more ambitious scope, offering new surprises alongside recognizable locations such as Peru and Egypt. The premise centers on Lara’s pursuit of the mythical Scion artifact, coupling exploration and puzzle solving with encounters against predators and ancient hazards. The release will support multiple languages at launch, including full audio and text for English, French, German, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese. Additional text localization will be available for Italian, European Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese.

Fans who create an Amazon Games iD account and link it to their Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox profile will receive the Mediterranean Wetsuit Outfit as an in-game reward when the title launches.

Alongside the reimagining, the studio confirmed Tomb Raider Catalyst as the next fully original entry in the franchise. Scheduled for release in 2027, the game follows Lara Croft on what is described as her largest adventure to date, set in Northern India after a mythical cataclysm. Crystal Dynamics stated that the game will feature a more expansive world, offering a vertical platforming framework and a narrative shaped around a race against rival treasure hunters. Catalyst is also being created using Unreal Engine 5 and will arrive on the same platforms as Legacy of Atlantis.
