The previous entry in the Dishonored series, Dishonored 2, is a 2016 action-adventure game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. The game’s storyline revolves around Empress Emily Kaldwin’s overthrow by the witch Delilah Copperspoon. Players have the option to assume the role of either Emily or her Royal Protector and father, Corvo Attano, in their quest to reclaim the throne. Both characters possess their own set of supernatural abilities, although players can opt to abstain from using these abilities. The game offers a variety of approaches for completing missions, ranging from non-lethal stealth to deliberate, violent confrontations.

The concept for Dishonored 2 originated during the development of downloadable content for its predecessor. This led to the decision to give a voice to Corvo Attano, who had been a silent character in the first game. Additionally, the decision to progress the timeline was prompted by the idea of making Emily Kaldwin a playable character. The game’s visual style draws inspiration from paintings and sculptures. Set in the fictional city of Karnaca, the city’s history and design were created within a year. Karnaca’s architecture, fashion, and technology are influenced by Mediterranean countries such as Greece, Italy, Spain, and Cyprus, with a backdrop of the year 1851.
