Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy developers have shared an update on Part 3, stating that they will consider expanding the storyline if fans demand it.
During a recent AMA, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase were asked for an update on the development of Part 3. In response, Hamaguchi shared that things are progressing smoothly. As for when fans will get to hear more details about the game, he said that he was unable to offer an exact time frame, but he assured that there’s more to come with the Remake project and said that he hopes to be able to release more information in the future.
When asked if Nobuo Uematsu had agreed to write the main theme for Part 3, Hamaguchi vaguely responded by asking fans to stay tuned for more information. Though, given how the legendary composer has done main themes for the first two parts, it’s safe to assume he’ll also be on board for the final one.
Hamaguchi and Kitase were also asked whether they see Part 3 as the final entry in the Final Fantasy VII universe, or if they are interested in creating smaller scope games focusing on individual characters like in Episode Intermission or even a full-fledged continuation of the main story, given all the new ideas explored in the trilogy that can be expanded or continued. In response, Hamaguchi said that the development team is focusing on Part 3 at the moment, so they don’t have plans for any additional DLC or episodes at this time. However, he added that if there’s strong demand from the fan base after part 3’s release, they will consider the possibility.
The developers were also about the toughest part of recreating scenes and adding new dialogue in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, and about the one scene out of all the new ones added that they are most proud of. In response, Hamaguchi stated that the team had two approaches to making updates to scenes. The first was when the overall sequence didn’t change much, but it received new details and dialog for greater depth. The second was when a completely new scenario was added. One such scene from Rebirth that he’s proud of is the one where Tifa falls into the lifestream in Gongaga, and her feelings are conveyed to the player.
