WWE 2K24 May Be Using AI For Character Models

2K and Visual Concepts’ upcoming professional wrestling sports game, WWE 2K24, may be using AI for character models.

Twitter user NotThatTomGreen spotted something off about the character models shown in the recent WWE 2K24 trailer, suggesting that they may have been generated via AI. There certainly seem to be some inaccuracies in the depiction of some of the characters, as seen in the screenshots below.

In-game renditions of popular WWE superstars Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan appear to be using some sort of AI based face swap in the trailer.

As for the promotional art for WWE 2K24 seen above, although it appears that the image may have been altered using AI, creator Johnathan Barlett is known for being vocal against AI generated content. Therefore, it’s highly unlikely that his artwork would have been altered in any way using an AI tool.

In his post, Barlett reveled the artwork for the cover of WWE 2K24: 40 Years of Wrestlemania Edition. He mentioned that he wanted the art to capture a *feeling* of history and timelessness while at the same time not feeling overly dated. He thanked the creative team for trusting him with this important milestone and for encouraging his creative approach.

WWE 2K24 is the twenty-fourth installment in the WWE video game series, the eleventh under the WWE 2K banner, and the successor to WWE 2K23. The cover stars for WWE 2K24 were confirmed on January 22, 2024, with Cody Rhodes on the Standard Edition, and Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair on the Deluxe Edition. A special “40 Years of WrestleMania” Edition was also announced, allowing players to experience a WrestleMania showcase mode for the first time since WWE 2K14. All editions will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. The Standard Edition is scheduled for release on March 8, 2024, while the Deluxe and 40 Years of WrestleMania Editions will be released on March 5, 2024.
