The announcement of the next entry in Square Enix’s Nier action role-playing game series is set to happen sometime during the year 2025, according to producer Yosuke Saito.
4Gamer has returned with its annual end-of-the-year feature, where it interviews well-known people from the game industry for their end-of-the-year comments on the game that impressed or surprised them the most, their most memorable game content, and the individual who’s work they enjoyed. In his interview, Nier producer Yosuke Saito shared his appreciation for Matsumoto Hitoshi’s work on Japanese comedy reality television show Documental, saying that when he was exhausted from work, he laughed out loud watching the show. He added that it was a healing experience for him.
In response to a question regarding his aspirations for next year, Saito talked about 2025 being the 15th anniversary of the NieR series, hinting at the announcement of the next entry. He said, “I’d like to do something! What should I do? I don’t know about the next game, or how it will turn out… I’ve heard a lot of people’s expectations. It’s a difficult decision… However, I can’t help but do less as a producer, so I hope you will be patient and wait.”
Saito discussing how the next entry in the Nier series will turn out seems to suggest that the game may be closer to an announcement than previously believed. As for when in 2025 the announcement may happen is anyone’s guess. The original Nier was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 22, 2010. Therefore, if we were to guess, it would happen in the near vicinity of April, 2025.
As for the 2024 game he was most impressed by, Saito mentioned the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake, saying he had a lot of fun playing it, and he appreciated how it had been brought in line with the modern era.
