Walmart may delay sales of the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 until November 6, a week after the console’s planned October 29 launch. An unverified internal notice shared in a Reddit post reportedly tells store employees to keep a sales restriction in place because of supply chain delays.
According to the notice, some Walmart locations may not receive the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition in time for launch. The point-of-sale restriction will remain active through at least November 6 while stores work through preorders and wait for additional stock. Employees are instructed not to override the restriction or cancel existing orders because of the delay.
The notice also says preorders will remain in the queue until stock arrives, with orders fulfilled according to preorder priority and available inventory. Employees are reportedly advised to tell customers that inventory has been delayed and that their orders will be fulfilled once the console reaches their store.
Nintendo announced the special edition during its September 8 Direct, setting a US price of $519.99 and an October 29 release date. The console features Triforce designs on the system’s back, dock, and Joy-Con 2 controllers. Nintendo is also releasing matching accessories, including a Pro Controller priced at $99.99, a display stand, and a carrying case with a screen protector. The game is not included with the console.
