Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Release Date Still Undecided, Voice Performances Re-Recorded As Needed

The release date for Konami’s upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, remains undecided.

In the latest Xbox Games Showcase deep dive for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, series producer Noriaki Okamura mentioned that the game’s release date remains undecided for now. That said, he assured that further announcements will be made in the near future. He expressed confidence that the game will appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers.

During the deep dive, Okamura shared his extensive history with the Metal Gear series, highlighting his involvement with the development of several titles, including Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and the recent Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1. He explained that the team at Konami decided to reintroduce Metal Gear Solid to new players and keep the series relevant for future generations, which led to the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Okamura clarified that the upcoming remake retains the original story and game world, while enhancing it with cutting-edge graphics and 3D sound, with the aim of delivering a superior survival stealth action experience. He further discussed the major graphical improvements achieved with the remake via Unreal Engine 5. The development team focused on creating realistic jungle environments and detailed models for plants and animals. He also highlighted the enhanced audio quality, mentioning that original voice performances have been re-recorded where necessary and are now available in higher fidelity without the compression limitations of the past.

Gameplay Refinements

The Metal Gear Solid series producer also talked about gameplay mechanics and options available to players in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. He said that the remake will offer both a contemporary third person perspective and a legacy overhead camera view, allowing players to choose their preferred camera perspective. He emphasized that gameplay mechanics in the upcoming title have been modernized while also ensuring that they retain the essence of the original.

Beginning With the Origin Story

Regarding the story, Okamura summariz discussed how the original Metal Gear Solid 3 served as an origin story for the character of Big Boss. He mentioned that this prequel provides an accessible entry point for those new to the series. As such, it made sense to remake this title and set the stage for future remakes.
