Square Enix’s upcoming title Forspoken is not related to the studio’s Luminous engine tech demo, titled Agni’s Philosophy, according to the game’s director.
Speaking during an interview, Forspoken game director Takeshi Aramaki clarified that the upcoming new IP is not related to the Luminous engine Agni’s Philosophy tech demo. In response to a question regarding the possibility of Forspoken being built off the Agni’s Philosophy tech demo Square Enix had showcased some years back, Aramaki stated that Agni’s Philosophy was in fact revealed as a tech demo for Final Fantasy. Therefore, in that sense, it’s unrelated to Forspoken.
Though, Aramaki did add that, with Forspoken, the studio wanted to create an experience that was based on magic. As a result, there are similarities between the two on that front. However, he clarified that Agni’s Philosophy as a world stands on its own, and the development team has built the world and lore for Forspoken off of its discussions with western scenario writers like Gary Witta and Amy Hennig. Therefore, it is a completely different undertaking, he said.
Forspoken is a new action role-playing game from Luminous Productions and Square Enix. It is set for release on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5 on October 11, 2022. The gameplay is centered on smooth and fast terrain traversal, according to director Takeshi Aramaki. It’s billed as a “narrative-driven adventure” that involves players traveling to any location at any time.
Frey, the protagonist, has a wide range of magical powers at her disposal, and she’ll get experience points after each battle engagement. Frey’s cloak may be improved to boost her battle effectiveness and attributes, and adding nail paint grants her unique skills. In order to regain health, the player can craft items or rest in a secure spot. A “breakstorm,” a scenario akin to horde mode in which waves of demonic monsters arise and assault Frey, may occur while the player is exploring the game area. The storm will come to a stop when a specified boss figure appears.
