AI slop may have brought about a considerable delay in the Steam review and approval process for upcoming games, according to a developer.
Alfred Kamon, game director of Food Devils at Studio Daimon, took to Twitter/X to reveal that the game’s upcoming Early Access release after 4 years of development has been postponed because Steam has yet to approve the game’s submitted build, despite the development team waiting for more than 20 days. He explained that Steam requires developers to submit their game builds for review before release. The process involves checking for potential malware and ensuring that the game contains the content advertised on its store page.
Steam’s standard disclaimer states that reviews typically take 3 to 5 business days, although developers are advised to allow up to 7 business days if feedback needs to be addressed. Kamon noted that the process had generally been timely for his previous games and demos. However, he believes the situation has changed considerably, potentially because the Steam review queue has become clogged with AI slop. The developer said that some studios have experienced waiting periods of several weeks throughout October, with multiple upcoming releases reportedly being delayed as a result.
Studio Daimon submitted its finished build of Food Devils on October 12, 2026, but it has yet to be approved more than 20 days later. The developer had submitted another support ticket mentioning the urgency of the situation and the possibility of missing the game’s release date, but received no response. Kamon acknowledged that Steam’s staff may just be overwhelmed, but he expressed disappointment over the unexpected delay.
Food Devils combines the strategic depth of tactical role-playing games with roguelike elements. Players will hunt monsters, loot their spoils and cook some otherworldly dishes. The game is set for release across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
