Snake Voice Actor Akio Otsuka Wants One More Metal Gear

Solid Snake voice actor Akio Otsuka has once again expressed his desire for another Metal Gear game, saying he believes there is room for one more entry for fans around the world.

In an interview with Bunshun Online, Otsuka was asked about the possibility of working with Hideo Kojima on another Metal Gear title. The actor was reminded of comments he previously made on Showtaro Morikubo and Kohei Amasaki’s YouTube show Mori no Su, where he said he thought it would be nice if the series received one more game.

“I truly feel that way—for the sake of Metal Gear fans all over the world. There are fans around the globe waiting eagerly with bated breath. For them, let’s make just one more Metal Gear. I have this feeling of, ‘He’s making his own original titles with DEATH STRANDING now, so wouldn’t it be fine to do it?'” Otsuka said.

When asked whether he had actually spoken to Kojima about wanting to make another Metal Gear game, Otsuka declined to give a direct answer, joking, “I’ll leave that to your imagination (laughs).”

Otsuka also addressed his previous comments that he did not want to work on Metal Gear without Kojima’s involvement. He explained that the series is different from his usual voice acting work because of the role Kojima played in creating it.

“Fundamentally, for us voice actors, if we’re asked to do a job, doing it is our work. However, when it comes to the Metal Gear series, Director Kojima created it, and I take pride in having built it alongside him. That’s why I said, ‘I don’t want to do a Metal Gear that Director Kojima isn’t involved in.’ Having said that, though, I’ve kind of backed myself into a corner where I can’t take it back now (laughs),” Otsuka said.

Kojima has not returned to the Metal Gear series since his split from Konami following the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The developer went on to establish Kojima Productions as an independent studio and has since focused on projects including Death Stranding, OD and Physint.
