The development of Alan Wake 2 is reportedly coming along nicely, and the game is shaping up to be a “true” next-gen showcase.
The co-founder of XboxEra and co-host of the XboxEra Podcast, Shpeshal Nick, took to Twitter to state that he’s heard Alan Wake 2 is pretty far along in development, and that it will deliver a “true” next-gen experience. He suggested that publisher Epic Games has made a major investment in the Alan Wake sequel.
Nick didn’t reveal a whole lot, but his information is in line with what has been reported about Alan Wake 2 in the past. Creative director Sam Lake and game director Kyle Rowley had revealed earlier that Alan Wake 2 will end up being the studio’s biggest and most ambitious game to date, and that the game will deliver a genuine survival horror experience.
Lake stated that Remedy’s dream of Alan Wake 2 has grown more ambitious and more unique over the years. A game project like this is a very complex undertaking, as a lot of different things need to come together. As such, it is the studio’s biggest project yet, not just in terms of the concept itself, but also the timing and having the right partners for the venture. Meanwhile, Rowley, who served as the lead designer for Quantum Break, stated that the studio isn’t quite ready to reveal much about its approach to survival horror just yet. Though, he added that him and the development team want to put a stake in the ground and say that they are creating Remedy’s take on the survival horror genre.
Alan Wake II is an upcoming survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. The follow-up to Alan Wake (2010) will be made available for the PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S sometime this year in 2023.
