Psychonauts 2 Gets Native HDR Exclusively For XSX, Also Has Faster Load Times

Psychonauts 2 has native HDR on the Xbox Series consoles. The game also has almost twice as fast load times on Xbox Series than on PS5.

Psychonauts 2 is available to play now and it has turned out to be an amazing sequel. As the game is launching today and it is also available on Xbox Game Pass, we are getting comparisons that pit the PS5 version against the Xbox Series S and X. In this case, the Series S and X trump over the PS5 version but not on raw power difference but rather the lack fo support.

Psychonauts 2 was birthed as a crowd-funded project which promised a PS4 port. This is one of the reasons the game is still coming to the PS4 even though Microsoft had acquired Double Fine Productions back in 2020. This led to the project getting a bigger funding pool helping it expand its scope.

Sadly, there is no native PS5 version, but the developers did give the PS5 owners something extra with the support of 60 FPS. The game runs at 30 FPS on the PS4 Pro and 60 on the PS5, both at 1440p resolution. Compared to this, the Xbox Series S and X both support 120 FPS along with a higher resolution. You can run it at 2160p at 60 FPS or 1440p at 120 FPS on the Xbox Series X, or 1620p at 60 FPS and 1080p at 120 FPS on the Xbox Series S. It even manages to hit native 4K on the Xbox One X but at 30 FPS.

While this difference can be neglected, the load times also show a different story. On the PS5, the load times take almost twice as long as the Xbox Series consoles. They can take under 20 seconds while they barely hit 8 seconds on the Xbox Series S and X. This is most likely due to the lack of a native version for the PS5.
