Xbox One Insider Build Leads To Black Screen of Death, Microsoft Issues a Fix

by Salal Awan

Xbox Insiders recently had to face some frustration over a rogue system update that led to the console booting to a black screen of death.

If you are a part of the Xbox Insiders program, you can opt in to get the latest system software updates that are still being beta tested by Microsoft. You can test the new features ahead of the public launch if you prefer to do it, but obviously, there are some risks with this as well.

An update can potentially end up bricking the console as was the case with the Insider update earlier this week. It led to several users complaining about their Xbox console booting to a black screen where they were stuck without any solution.

Xbox Black Screen of Death Fix

Microsoft support has recommended the following temporary fix to get around the black screen of death. In case you have installed a system update that has broken your Xbox console making it unable to boot properly, you can attempt the following method.

  • Press and hold the Bind + Eject button for 10 to 15 seconds
  • Listen for two power-up tones a couple of seconds apart
  • Release the button after hearing the two tones
  • In the menu that comes up next, pick up “Troubleshoot” and then “Reset this Xbox but keep Games and Apps”
  • Your Xbox will end up installing the latest version of public system software
  • You will be required to login into your account again after installing the update

This issue basically starts after the system software is corrupted and the console has to be reset to resolve it. It should also solve the problem with the Insider update corrupting the console.

Let us know if you have resolved your issue after installing the new system update in the comments below.
