Analyst David Gibson expects a 399 US Dollar price for the base SKU of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
During an interview with CNBC, David Gibson, Senior Analyst at MST Financial, was asked for his view on the sweet spot price point for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. In response, he mentioned that the main price point everyone is looking for is around 399 US Dollars, and that there’s likely to be an additional, more expensive SKU that will come bundled with a prominent game, such as the next Mario Kart.
Gibson said that Nintendo will take inflation into account for an overall increase in price over the original Switch for its successor. As the same time, he mentioned that users have expectations for reasonable pricing, which is why he doesn’t expect Nintendo to price the base Switch 2 SKU above 399 US Dollars.
Regarding the presence of killer features that would encourage existing Switch users to upgrade to the Switch 2, Gibson said that Nintendo has only offered a look at the new console’s design. He expects new features to be shown alongside its launch lineup during the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, 2025.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of a 399 US Dollar price point and an additional SKU for the Nintendo Switch 2. A few months ago, an insider by the name of moistycharlie claimed to have heard that the upcoming console will retail for 100 US Dollars more than the original Switch. They further mentioned that the Switch 2 will be available in two different SKUs, though they hadn’t received clarification from their sources regarding the specific differences between them. Taiwain’s Economic Daily had also claimed that the new console will have an MSRP of 399 US Dollars.
In addition to the upcoming Direct, Nintendo will also be holding Switch 2 Experience events, where consumers can get some hands-on time with the hardware, in cities across the globe.
