Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director Daniel Vavra has responded to the negative reviews and other criticism received by the game.

Vavra called out both GamesHub and Eurogamer over their low-scoring reviews for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, both of which are aggregated on Metacritic. He sarcastically referred to them as “trusted sources”, implying that they were on an agenda to drop the Metacritic aggregate below 90, the minimum score required for the website’s “universal acclaim” label.  He blamed “journalistic standards” for the game dropping below an aggregate of 90 on Metacritic. Ultimately, he took satisfaction from player reviews on Steam, over 90% of which are positive.

The Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director compared Metacritic to rival Opencritic, saying that the latter is a much better review aggregator. He pointed out that it features more reviews, more options, and more information. He also expressed disappointment over the acquisition of Gamerankings by Metacritic, and criticized modern websites for their removal of user options in the name of accessibility.

Furthermore, Vavra defended himself against people who criticized him for offering diverse romance options in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. One individual called him a “grifter”, who just wanted to gain money through the original game and then went on to betray fans with the second entry. Another Twitter/X user criticized him for altering the sexual preference of the game’s “canonically straight” protagonist, Henry, which, according to them, no one had asked for. Vavra was also blamed for “lying” to the community about these elements, which he completely denied. He was also told by multiple people that they’d much rather pirate the game on PC, as it isn’t protected by Denuvo.
