Animal Crossing New Horizons Is Now The Best Selling Nintendo Switch Retail Game In Japan

Animal Crossing New Horizons has claimed the spot of the best selling game at retail in Japan. It achieved this feat in a short amount of time.

Famitsu has shared its weekly sales data for Japan retail sales and Animal Crossing New Horizons has again charted as the best selling game for last week. It has sold through approximately 284K copies in Japan putting lifetime sales at 3.85 million units. This puts the game ahead of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has currently sold through 3.66 million units.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling games released by Nintendo. It is outpacing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and has continued to do really well. The game is about to hit five million sales in Japan if we count digital+retail sales combined, and it is not doing that bad in terms of retail sales either.

Here are the top 5 best selling Nintendo Switch games in Japan based on the sales data shared by Famitsu as of April 26.

  • Animal Crossing New Horizons – 3.85 million
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 3.66 million
  • Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield – 3.57 million
  • Splatoon 2 – 3.38 million
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 2.89 million

It is important to mention that Animal Crossing New Horizons launched on March 20 and has already managed to top the list, which is highly impressive.

Nintendo Switch currently has four different games that have sold more than three million units with Maro Kart 8 Deluxe possibly joining the three million-seller club later down the line.

AC New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. It has continued to sell well worldwide and has led to a shortage of Nintendo Switch hardware due to an increase in demand for the console.
