ARC Raiders Moving to Two Major Updates Per Year

by Greg Martin

Embark Studios has announced a major change to how ARC Raiders will receive updates moving forward, confirming that the extraction shooter will transition away from monthly content drops in favor of two large-scale updates per year.

According to the studio, the original monthly cadence helped keep the game active following launch, but developers concluded that the schedule limited the scale and impact of new content. Embark stated that larger development windows will allow the team to focus on more transformative additions while continuing regular live support through balance updates, bug fixes, events, and store refreshes.

The first update under the new structure will arrive in October and is titled Frozen Trail. Described as the game’s biggest update so far, the expansion introduces a new map in the Rust Belt, additional ARC enemy types, expanded progression systems, and further exploration into the origins of the ARC threat itself. The update will also include a redesigned skill tree, along with new weapons, items, cosmetics, and equipment.

Embark says the changes are intended to strengthen the game’s long-term health by improving progression, economic balance, anti-cheat systems, and overall player goals. The studio acknowledged that many dedicated players have already reached current progression limits, prompting the need for more substantial systems that encourage continued engagement.

Before Frozen Trail arrives, ARC Raiders will introduce a new late-game Trader beginning next week. Unlockable at level 25, the trader is designed to address issues related to stash management and underused high-value items. Players will be able to exchange valuable gear for rotating rewards, rare items, cosmetics, and gameplay benefits.

Among the trader’s new perks are expanded stash space and the Expedition Vault, which allows players to carry up to five items between Expeditions. Embark explained that the feature is intended to make high-risk activities feel more rewarding and less punishing for experienced players.

The developer also emphasized broader ambitions for ARC Raiders beyond survival-focused gameplay. Future updates aim to evolve the world, progression systems, and narrative together over time, with the long-term objective centered on players reclaiming the surface from the ARC threat.
