Capcom is planning on using generative AI in order to improve its development efficiency as part of its future growth strategy.

In the presentation (via ZhugeEX on Twitter/X) for its FY26/3 Earnings Summary, FY27/3 Plans, and Mid- to Long-Term Growth Strategies, Capcom has revealed that it plans to use generative AI to improve development efficiency and productivity as part of its long-term growth strategy. In one of the slides (as seen in the image below), the company described the technology as “a tool to streamline routine tasks freeing up time for creative work.”

The accompanied illustration indicates that AI will used to reduce time spent on routine development tasks such as research, draft generation, user analysis, interactive manuals, error checks, and meeting notes. According to Capcom, the goal is to increase efficiencies and allow developers to spend more time on “true value creation” and new projects.

Instead of a replacement for developers, Capcom views AI as a productivity tool intended to support its expanding development pipeline. The publisher is continuing to grow its workforce, with plans to increase its development staff by more than 100 employees annually. The company reported that its consolidated developer count grew from 2,846 employees in FY25/3 to 3,011 in FY26/3, with a target of 3,180 developers in FY27/3.

Capcom also highlighted its efforts to strengthen development capabilities, including centralized development operations, expanded R&D investment, and continued use of its proprietary RE Engine technology. The company’s R&D investment is expected to rise from 54.8 billion Yen in FY26/3 to 62.9 billion Yen in FY27/3.

Capcom reported record-high consolidated sales and operating profit for FY26/3, with it being the company’s its 13th consecutive year of operating profit growth and 11th consecutive year of more than 10% operating profit growth. Net sales for FY26/3 reached 195.3 billion Yen, while operating profit climbed to 75.2 billion Yen. The Digital Contents business remained the primary growth driver, supported by both new releases and catalog sales. The company recorded its highest-ever annual unit sales at 59.07 million units, with the Resident Evil series, Devil May Cry 5, and Street Fighter 6 being major contributors.
