A brand new leak for the unannounced game in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, reportedly titled Assassin’s Creed Mirage, has apparently revealed the name of its DLC, which is titled The Forty Thieves.
According to Assassin’s Creed enthusiast Twitter user CODEX, the DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is titled “The Forty Thieves”. This information was reportedly leaked via the Ubisoft Store. The leak includes an image showing the game and DLC quest’s respective titles.
The Ubisoft store leak lends further credibility to prior leaks that suggested the game takes place in the city of Baghdad in Iraq. The Forty Thieves is a popular story from the One Thousand and One Nights in Iraqi folklore. After hearing it from Syrian storyteller Hanna Diyab, it was translated into French by Antoine Galland and included in the collection in the 18th century. One of the most well-known Arabian Nights stories, it has been frequently retold and performed in various media, particularly for children, for whom the story’s more violent elements are frequently omitted.
In the original story, Ali Baba is an honest and impoverished woodcutter who learns the location of a thief’s den and enters using the secret phrase “open sesame.” The thieves attempt to kill Ali Baba, but his devoted slave girl thwarts their plans. She marries Ali Baba’s son, who keeps the treasure’s location a secret.
Previously, Youtuber j0nathan claimed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take place in Baghdad between the years 870-860, and it will bring the series back to its basic origins, with heavy inspiration from the first Assassin’s Creed game. He added that it will not feature RPG elements, such as the leveling system, dialogue choices, gender choice found in recent Assassin’s Creed games.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier corroborated some of the information, stating that a person familiar with the project had told him that a part of the details shared by j0nathan is indeed accurate, such as the game’s title and the release window of spring 2023, the location being Baghdad, and the gameplay returning to the series to its origins. However, Schreier mentioned that other parts of the information, such as there being multiple cities to explore, are not accurate.
