Batman: Arkham Shadow Revives Freeflow Combat, Explores Origins Of Major Characters

Warner Bros Games and Camoflaj’s upcoming VR game, Batman: Arkham Shadow, is set to bring freeflow combat and explore the origins of major characters in the series.

Details shared on the official Batman Arkham Videos YouTube channel have revealed that Batman: Arkham Shadow will feature exploration, stealth, and the series’ signature freeflow combat, letting players deliver punches, deflect attacks, dodge, and perform brutal takedowns. The game is said to be set between the events of Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Players will get to see the origin of characters like Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, as Batman struggles with using force to achieve peace.

Furthermore, it is mentioned that Predator sections will be making a return in Batman: Arkham Shadow. Players will be able to use Detective Vision, perch on vantage points, and string up enemies. They can also throw a Batarang to maintain combos, use a smoke bomb to slip out of sight, scour crime scenes for clues, solve puzzles, and uncover hidden collectibles. It is also mentioned that the game will feature explorable iconic locations such as the Monarch Theater and Bowery, as well as new spots like the Beacon hotel, which originally appeared in the Arkham Origins prequel comic.

Additonally, it has been revealed that some returning voice actors, including Roger Craig Smith, who voiced Batman in Arkham Origins, will reprise their role in the upcoming VR game. The story in Batman: Arkham Shadow is set on the 4th of July, Independence Day, with Gotham City besieged by a mysterious new threat i.e. the Rat King, aka Otis Flannegan or Ratcatcher, and his cultish devotees. Commissioner Jim Gordon, District Attorney Harvey Dent, and other public officials have been abducted by the Rats, who have pledged to execute them in one week’s time.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is set for release exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 later this year in Fall 2024.
