According to the details mentioned on the PlayStation Store page for Black Myth: Wukong, the action role-playing game is rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. Players will set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past.

As the Destined One, players will encounter powerful foes and worthy rivals throughout your journey, and engage them in epic battles. Aside from mastering various staff techniques, players can also freely combine different spells, abilities, weapons, and equipment to find the winning strategy that best suits their combat styles.

In terms of key features, the PlayStation Store page for Black Myth: Wukong states that it will offer a fascinating realm filled with the wonders and discoveries of ancient Chinese mythology, a diverse cast of adversaries, each with unique strengths, spells, transformations, and magic vessels in all manifestations, and an engaging tapestry of the origins of various characters, including their personalities and motivations.

The development of Black Myth: Wukong was not without its share of problems. The game was originally planned for release in the year 2023. According to Youtuber Ranton, a developer who worked on character and combat design for Black Myth Wukong left Game Science in 2021 due to creative direction and workflow differences. They ended up in some back and forth quarrel online with the studio after quitting, and things got rather ugly.
