Sony has confirmed that they will start giving the users the choice to change their PSN ID beginning today. Here’s how you can change your PSN Online ID from PS4 or a Web Browser.
First, to get something out of the way, you can only change the PSN Online ID for free the first time and have to pay a fee of $9.99 or equivalent for the subsequent name change. If you have PS Plus subscription, the price drops down further to $4.99 for one-time change. The good news though is that you can revert to the previous PSN Online ID at any point without any additional fees.

So to clear something out regarding the PSN Online ID change, you can do it as many times as you like without any restrictions. You can also revert back to your old ID easily. The only thing to worry about here is if your old ID violated Sony’s Terms of Services. They have amended it recently and offered more accessible refund options on the PSN transactions.
There are some things to keep in mind though like compatibility with games while all the new ones that were released from April 1, 2018, and onwards won’t have any issues with these changes. Keep in mind there are potential risks associated with a PSN Online ID change like losing access to leaderboards, save game data, trophies, and content that you have paid for in some games.
