Chaos Zero Nightmare has launched its first anniversary update, introducing a new season titled A Promise Upon the Snow, a new Seasonal Combatant named Rossweisse, and several gameplay improvements. Developed by Super Creative and published by Smilegate, the free-to-play dark fantasy roguelike RPG is also celebrating its anniversary with the Nightmare Carnival event and a new minigame.
The update introduces Season 5 of Galactic Disaster, which begins with the Captain and their companions arriving at a newly emerged Chaos known as Celestial Bulwark after being isolated by a mysterious disaster. The story introduces Rossweisse, an Apostle of Kyrken, the Goddess of Cycles, while also exploring secrets surrounding another god, Diallos.
Rossweisse joins the roster as a Justice Attribute Striker and an Apostle who acts on behalf of the Goddess of Cycles. Her design draws inspiration from the five traditional colours of Obangsaek, which symbolise Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, while her weapon is modelled after the Saingeom, a sword believed to ward off calamities.
Her key card, Flicker Blade, splits into two cards, Shard: Light and Shard: Dark, which occupy opposite ends of the player’s hand. The cards interact with other cards to produce different effects and can combine into a single card under certain conditions, allowing Rossweisse to unleash a powerful skill.
Players can also explore Rossweisse’s past through her Trauma Code, which opens alongside her release. A new Supply Store for Celestial Bulwark is also available, allowing players to exchange currency earned by playing through the Chaos for character acquisition currency and growth materials.
New Card Skins, Special-Grade Attire, and Partner Features
The anniversary update introduces several new systems and quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback.
- Card Skins: Players can change the illustrations on Combatant cards. The feature was first introduced during the April Fools’ event and received a positive response from players.
- Special-Grade Attire: A new grade of Combatant attire changes all animations and Unique Card illustrations for the relevant character. These outfits also include dozens of exclusive voice lines.
- Partner Exploration Passives: Equipped Partners now provide additional benefits during Chaos and Sortie activities. Four-star Partners have two buff effects, while five-star Partners have three, with the effects benefiting the entire party.
- Select and Apply Divine Epiphany: Players can apply an Epiphany from a chosen god to a card while editing acquired Save Data.
Chaos Zero Nightmare First Anniversary Rewards
Smilegate is celebrating the game’s first anniversary with the Nightmare Carnival event, which runs until December 2, 2026.
Players can receive 10 free Rescues per day, for a total of 70, alongside additional login rewards. These include a five-star Combatant/Partner Selection Ticket and 1,600 Crystals. Check-in activities and in-game events also offer character acquisition currency and special Stickers.
The anniversary celebrations also include the Nightmare Dream Park minigame, available from October 21 through December 23, 2026. Players can place and develop facilities throughout the park, increase the satisfaction of visiting Combatants, and earn revenue.
Smilegate will also run an offline charitable campaign connected to the minigame to support children facing food insecurity.
Chaos Zero Nightmare is available as a free-to-play game on PC, iOS, and Android. Players can download it through the official PC website, the Apple App Store, or Google Play.
