2K and Firaxis Games’ turn-based strategy game, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, may be introducing a fourth age.

A data mine of the Civilization VII game files has revealed that the game will apparently receive a fourth age, along with additional leaders and civilizations. It was discovered that the ‘AssetCloud.env’ file in the game’s main folder contains plenty of interesting details.

The file contains text that says, “age-atomic-shell”, suggesting that an atomic age will be added to Civilization VII in the future. Furthermore, the file contains names of several leaders who aren’t currently present in the game, including  Edward Teach, Sayyida-Al-Hurra, and Whina Cooper. Additionally, there are also names of civilizations not found in the game, including Ottomans, Maori, Tonga, Pirate republic, and Iceland.

The aforementioned content is likely to be added to Civilization VII via future downloadable content. As for when that will happen is anyone’s guess. The development team at Firaxis Games recently responded to mixed feedback following the early access launch of Civilization VII with a heartfelt message to fans. The studio  expressed its gratitude to the community and shared plans for upcoming updates, highlighting how crucial player feedback will be in shaping the game’s future. The team acknowledged input from both longtime fans and newcomers, showing a commitment to improving the experience for everyone.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. As with its predecessors, the game emphasizes exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination, giving players control over military and civilian units to explore the map, establish cities, develop culture and technology, gather resources, and confront rival civilizations vying for global dominance. Victory can be achieved through various means, including peaceful strategies or outright military conquest. This iteration will allow players to select leaders and civilizations independently.
