Alleged concept art for EA and Cliffhanger Games’ canceled Black Panther game has found its way on the internet.

Content creator notfunEman took to Twitter/X to share alleged concept art for the Panther game, which was in development at Cliffhanger Games. They mentioned that the images were obtained from a confidential EA survey. As per them, the canceled title was going to have players assume the role of Tchalla’s son and was also set to feature the Skrulls as the antagonists.

According to the leaker, those who participated in the EA survey were shown a scene where T’challa’s son Azari (one of multiple playable characters) was fighting T’challa in ritual combat. The scene was described as being very similar to the one in the film. The fight is then interrupted by an incoming Skrull ship, which results in  T’challa being taken.

It was recently reported by IGN that EA had canceled Black Panther and closed down developer Cliffhanger Games in an effort to “sharpen [its] focus and put [its] creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.” In addition, EA also laid off some employees on both its mobile and central teams. “These decisions are hard,” said EA president Laura Miele in an email sent to staff. “They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.”

It’s possible that licensed games don’t end up being as profitable for game companies as non-licensed projects, owing to the cost incurred by licensing fee. EA may be looking to cut down on the development of such titles in future. If this is indeed the case, it may put the company’s other Marvel-licensed game, Iron Man, in jeopardy. Motive Studio has been working on the project since at least July, 2021. A job listing had confirmed that the game will run on Unreal Engine 5.
