Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is a full-fledged remaster that follows SOLDIER 1st Class Zack Fair on his journey to track down missing SOLDIER Genesis Rhapsodos, unraveling the stories of Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeith, Tifa and more. The game will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime during Winter 2022.

Hajime Tabata directed the original, while Tetsuya Nomura was the character designer. Square Enix had planned to build a PlayStation Portable adaptation of the mobile phone game Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII before starting production, but after some deliberation, they opted to design a new game instead. The story is based on a situation envisioned by Kazushige Nojima while working on Final Fantasy VII.

The original Crisis Core involved exploration and interaction with NPCs in addition to combat against hostile creatures. At save points, the player could opt to pick one of the various side missions, and if they did, Zack would be sent to a specific region where he’d be required to kill one or more creatures in order to finish the task. If the mission was a success, the player would be rewarded with useful supplies, and new missions would then become available. Regardless of whether or not the side quest was completed successfully by the player, Zack would return to the main game’s save point.
