Cyberpunk 2077 was recently updated to version 1.23 which will reportedly mark the end of performance updates for the game. Is it in a good state now?

Sony finally allowed CD Projekt Red to bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to the PlayStation Store. They have since released a major update with patch 1.23 that marked the end of performance updates for the game. Digital Foundry decided to give this patch a go since it is supposedly the last major update before a proper next-generation version is released.

In their technical analysis, we are told some things regarding the performance of the game. You can have a look at the video above to get a detailed overview, but if you don’t have the time; here’s the gist of it.

If you are hoping to get the game now, which is the best platform? The answer is Xbox Series S or X. While PS5 can run at 60 FPS, it comes at the cost of a lower NPC count. Compared to the PS5, Xbox Series S and X both not only support a higher NPC count, but they can also lock to 30 FPS which is the best way to play the game for now. The other advantage these consoles have is regarding load times.

In the case of PS4 Pro or PS5, the load times can last almost one minute while they are under 20 seconds on the Xbox Series S and X. While PS5 is able to deliver a better average of 60 FPS, the lower NPC count along with the long load times doesn’t really give it any major advantage against the Xbox Series.

Still, if you want to play Cyberpunk 2077, it would be best to wait until a proper PS5 and Xbox Series version is out. This might solve the load times and NPC density issues on the PS5.
