Danganronpa 2×2 Switch 2 Will Use Game-Key Cards

by Greg Martin

Danganronpa 2×2 for Nintendo Switch 2 will now launch as a game-key card rather than a traditional physical release, Spike Chunsoft has announced. The change applies to the Switch 2 version in all regions, including North America and Europe.

The publisher said the decision followed careful consideration but did not provide further details about the reason for the format change. Spike Chunsoft also stressed that the announcement only concerns the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Danganronpa 2×2 and does not affect other platforms or games.

The change also affects existing pre-orders, although the process depends on where the game was purchased. Customers in the US who pre-ordered the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package through the Spike Chunsoft Official Store US will have their orders cancelled and will receive an email notification. Pre-orders for the game-key card version can be placed from today.

Customers who pre-ordered the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package through the Spike Chunsoft Official Store UK or EU will not have their orders cancelled. However, their existing orders will now contain the game on a game-key card.

Pre-orders made through other retail stores for either the Standard Edition or Psycho Tropical Vacation Package will also remain active. Customers should be aware that these orders will now be fulfilled with a game-key card version.

Danganronpa 2×2 is scheduled to launch in North America and Europe in early 2027. The game is also planned for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic Games Store, with the Xbox Series X|S version listed as digital only.

The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 or €59.99, while the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package costs $139.99 or €139.99. The game is a single-player visual novel and adventure title featuring Japanese and English text and voice options, with additional Chinese text available on Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox Series X|S.

Danganronpa 2×2 is being developed by Gemdrops, with Spike Chunsoft handling planning and production. The project is supervised by Kazutaka Kodaka of Tookyo Games, who also contributed to the original concept alongside Takekuni Kitayama.

The Danganronpa series began with Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc on PSP in Japan in 2010. The franchise has since expanded to 5 titles across multiple platforms and has surpassed 10 million copies in cumulative shipments worldwide.
