Elden Ring Looks Surprisingly Close To PS5 On Switch 2

A new comparison has highlighted how visually impressive Elden Ring looks on Nintendo Switch 2, with the portable version appearing surprisingly close to the PlayStation 5 release despite several technical compromises.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 with an unlocked frame rate that typically sits around 30 FPS. The console version features a single display mode, while dynamic resolution scaling can reduce image quality in areas where the internal resolution drops particularly low.

There are visual differences compared with the PS5 version, although they are not considered major across much of the game. Vegetation and certain effects show clearer compromises on Nintendo’s hardware, while the overall presentation remains relatively close to the current generation console version.

Performance is where the Switch 2 release has more noticeable limitations. While the game is generally playable, the frame rate does not consistently reach higher targets, and the performance could have benefited from further optimisation.

The Switch 2 version may nevertheless be particularly appealing when played in handheld mode. Despite its compromises, being able to play Elden Ring away from a television gives the Nintendo version a distinct advantage.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition includes the complete base game and Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, alongside two new starting classes, additional armour sets and cosmetic options for Torrent. The release is scheduled for August 28, 2026.
