1047 Games Ends Development On Empulse And Splitgate: Arena Reloaded

by Ali Haider

1047 Games has announced that it is ending active development on Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded because neither game is generating enough revenue to cover the ongoing cost of dedicated servers. Rather than shutting down the games completely, the studio will move both titles to peer-to-peer hosting.

The change will take effect on September 3. Dedicated servers and matchmaking will be discontinued, but both games will receive a server browser that allows players to host matches, find games and continue playing with friends.

1047 Games said it had continued paying for the dedicated servers to give both games more time to grow, but maintaining them is no longer financially sustainable. The studio acknowledged that the decision would be disappointing for players while stressing that it did not want to simply shut the games down.

Empulse will also receive one new map as part of its final update, while its price will be reduced across all regions. The September 3 update will represent the final version of the game.

The studio pointed to the original Splitgate as an example of its approach to supporting games after active development ends. After its dedicated servers were taken offline last year, the original game was moved to peer-to-peer hosting and remains playable, including on consoles.

1047 Games Changes Direction

The announcement also marks a change in direction for 1047 Games after a decade focused on live-service shooters. The studio said that its next projects could look very different from what players have come to expect from the developer.

According to co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian, more than 25 million people have played the company’s games over the past ten years. The studio said it will carry lessons from its work on Splitgate, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and Empulse into whatever it develops next.

1047 Games said it will continue playing both games and interacting with the community through its Discord following the end of active development.
