Detective Pikachu On Nintendo Switch Could Be a Sequel

by Greg Martin

The Pokémon Company had announced a new Detective Pikachu game for the Nintendo Switch in 2019, but there has been no new update on it until recently.

Detective Pikachu was a game that was a Pokémon Spin-off and launched on the Nintendo 3DS. It gained widespread recognition after being adapted into a Hollywood movie. While the movie didn’t manage to do enough to greenlight a sequel, a new game is already in development.

This was first revealed back in 2019 but since then, there hasn’t been any major update on the project. Due to the nature of the original announcement, most fans assumed that this might be a remaster or re-imaging rather than a sequel, and turns out it is actually a sequel.

At least this is what one ResetEra user has managed to dig up, and that too in the most unconventional way. In the newly released Monster Rancher 1 & 2 Collection for the Nintendo Switch, it is possible to lookup names of the upcoming Nintendo Switch games.

When the user searched for Detective Pikachu, they managed to find out the codename for it on the eShop database. This has been internally labeled as “Untitled Detective Pikachu Sequel”.

It is too early to say if this is indeed the case, or this could be a placeholder listing. The Pokémon Company hasn’t officially confirmed that this is a sequel, so we can take this as a rumor for now and consider the upcoming game as a brand new entry in the series for the Nintendo Switch.
