Square Enix has released new details for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, detailing the game’s online modes, Battle Arena and a new roguelike mode called Wrangler’s Gauntlet ahead of its December 3, 2026 release.
The game will feature several online activities, all with cross-platform support, allowing players on different systems to compete and team up. Online Joint Battles will see groups of wranglers take on giant monsters, with daily quests and special events offering rewards for defeating enemies from across the Dragon Quest series. These rewards include monster eggs that can hatch into creatures players can add to their parties.
Ranked Matches will pit players against one another, with victories earning Ranking Points that determine their seasonal standings. Private Matches will let players set their own rules, while the Wrangle Society will provide another place to challenge other wranglers and earn rewards through a roulette wheel. An Online Shop will also offer a rotating selection of items, with additional stock becoming available as players progress through the story.
Outside the online modes, players can visit the Battle Arena inside Witherwood Castle to test the monsters they have raised. The arena features regular and joint battles, each with seven difficulty categories. Monsters follow assigned tactics during fights, requiring players to monitor their performance and adjust their strategies as needed.
The Battle Arena will also host Wrangler’s Gauntlet, a new roguelike mode that challenges players to win 50 consecutive battles using the resources available to them. Victories award Wrangler Points, which can be spent in the Gauntlet Goods shop to obtain various items.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches on December 3, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and Windows.
