Square Enix’s role-playing game, Dragon Quest XII, is still in full development, and new details regarding the game will be revealed on a gradual basis.

During an interview on the Yubo and Mashirito’s KosoKoso YouTube channel, Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii was asked whether he had any personal announcements to share. In response, he mentioned that he has been working on quite a few things he can’t talk about for now.

However, Horii was able to share that he is working on the remakes of Dragon Quest I and II, and that the development team is also putting a lot of effort into the development of Dragon Quest XII. He say that him and the team are doing their best to meed the expectations of fans, and he hoped to be able to share further details on these projects sometime soon.

It has been nearly 2 years since an updated logo for Dragon Quest XII was shared by Square Enix on its career recruitment website. At the time, the company was looking to hire staff to accelerate development on a variety of games at Creative Business Unit II division, including Dragon Quest XII. Prior to that, Hori had announced that Dragon Quest XII was being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and that the game’s story had been completed. He had also shared that the development team had created a prototype that, according to him, was “a lot of fun”.

Recent revelations from Square Enix regarding Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake’s sales bode well for the future of the franchise. During its recent financial results briefing session, the company shared that the operating profit earned from its HD titles had gone up by 12.4 million US Dollars, from 17.8 million US Dollars earned during the previous fiscal year to 30.2 million US Dollars this year. The publisher attributed the increased operating income mainly to stronger than expected sales of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
