Dragon’s Dogma 2 Switch 2 vs. PS5 Comparison Shows Impressive Results For Capcom’s Port

by Salal Awan

Dragon’s Dogma 2 delivers a surprisingly strong performance on Nintendo Switch 2, with a new comparison against the PS5 version highlighting how closely Capcom’s port comes to the console’s performance mode in several areas. Although the Switch 2 version makes visual compromises and runs at a lower frame rate, it remains an impressive achievement for a hybrid console.

In handheld mode, Dragon’s Dogma 2 runs at an upscaled resolution of 1080p with an unlocked frame rate targeting 30 FPS. Docked mode raises the upscaled resolution to 1440p and offers some visual improvements, including better level of detail and greater object density. The PS5 version, by comparison, runs at an upscaled 4K resolution at 60 FPS.

The PS5 also benefits from ray tracing, which is absent from the Switch 2 version. Draw distance is lower on Nintendo’s hardware, while textures have less detail across surfaces and environments. These differences become more noticeable when the versions are compared side by side, although the Switch 2 release still delivers a convincing visual presentation.

Performance remains the biggest compromise. The Switch 2 version generally stays above 30 FPS, with frame rates occasionally reaching around 45 FPS. However, during open-world exploration, performance typically fluctuates between 30 and 40 FPS rather than maintaining a consistent 60 FPS.

Frame generation can be used to push the experience toward 60 FPS, similar to the approach available in Stellar Blade, although the resulting experience depends on individual preferences.

Dragon’s Dogma 2, along with its Dark Arisen expansion, is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
