Elden Ring May Receive A Sequel At Some Point, But Shadow Of The Erdtree Will Remain Its Only DLC

Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware’s action role-playing game, Elden Ring, may receive a sequel at some point, though Shadow of the Erdtree will remain its only DLC.

During a recent interview, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked about the possibility of a sequel. In response, he stated that whether the game’s entire story will conclude with the arrival of Shadow of the Erdtree has not yet been decided. However, he remained firm that the upcoming expansion will remain its first and last DLC, as the studio has no plans to add more content.

Elden ring sequel

In response to a question regarding the possible stories he would like to tell in the Elden Ring sequel, Miyazaki said that it was difficult for him to go into such details, given his position as the president of FromSoftware. He added that if he talked about it this early, it could end up spoiling narrative beats for a potential sequel. He mentioned that his habit in game development is to think and create, simultaneously. He said that there are still too many variables at this stage, therefore he couldn’t offer much detail.

Responding to another question regarding the possibility of Shadow of the Erdtree addressing the mysteries and questions raised during the base game, Miyazaki said that some of them will indeed be answered in the DLC. However, he refrained from saying whether it will lead to new mysteries, further hinting at the possibility of a sequel. Overall, though, he mentioned that the expansion will provide a deeper understanding of Elden Ring’s world and lore.

Miyazaki was also asked whether player choices and the resultant ending in the main storyline would have a different impact on the narrative of the DLC, and whether the latter would also have multiple endings much like the base game. In his response, he stated that the DLC exists independently, so player choices in the main game will not affect its story. As for multiple endings to the DLC, he said that it won’t have as many as the ones in the base game, but players will still make some crucial choices during their playthrough.
