Epic Games Is Assisting CD Projekt Red In Transitioning To Unreal Engine 5

Epic Games is offering assistance to CD Projekt Red in transitioning from the Red Engine to Unreal Engine 5.

Speaking during an interview on TheNeonArcade YouTube channel, Pawel Sasko, Quest Director at CD Projekt Red, confirmed that Epic Games is directly assisting the studio in making the transition to Unreal Engine 5.

Sasko mentioned that there’s a lot of work to be done with Unreal Engine 5, specifically in terms of the toolset. CD Projekt Red’s own Red Engine was tailored for specific things, and the development team needs to make sure that all of that is built properly so that it can make the games that it wants to exactly the way it wants to. He mentioned that work is currently ongoing in this regard, though didn’t go into further detail.

The Quest Director stated that the advantages of working on Unreal Engine 5 are quite apparent. He mentioned working together with epic, while posing a completely new challenge, is an honor for CD Projekt Red. He said that Epic Games has an incredible amount of seasoned engineers, therefore it is proving to be a learning experience for the Cyberpunk 2077 developer. Regarding the challenge involved in this collaboration, he mentioned that it is more of an opportunity, as there is so much space to actually do something “awesome”. That said, he reminded that there is still a lot of work to be done on that front.

On the subject of the next game in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, codenamed Orion, Sasko stated that he couldn’t speak much about the project, as there will be a time and place where the studio will discuss it in more detail.

The aforementioned Cyberpunk 2077 is an action role-playing game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt. Set in Night City, an expansive open world within the Cyberpunk universe, players assume the persona of V, a highly customizable mercenary. V possesses the ability to develop skills in hacking, machinery, and combat, both melee and ranged. The central narrative revolves around V’s struggle with a mysterious cybernetic implant that threatens to overwrite their identity with the personality and memories of a deceased celebrity, a presence solely perceived by V. In order to save their own life, V and the implanted personality must collaborate to separate themselves from one another.
