Microsoft has officially announced that Fable will launch on February 23, 2027.
The release date was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, providing an updated timeline for Playground Games’ long-awaited reboot following its earlier delay from a planned 2026 release window.
Alongside the announcement, Microsoft reiterated the game’s core premise, describing it as an immersive open-world action RPG where player decisions play a central role in shaping the experience. According to the publisher, players will be able to “Become the Hero you want to be in an immersive open-world action-RPG where each choice shapes your journey, reputation is everything, and fairytale endings are never guaranteed.”
The upcoming title marks the return of the Fable franchise under the stewardship of Playground Games, the studio best known for the Forza Horizon series. Set in the fantasy world of Albion, the reboot aims to blend the series’ signature humor and choice-driven storytelling with a modern open-world structure.
Fable was originally targeting a Fall 2026 release before Microsoft opted to push the project into early 2027. The additional development time moves the game away from what is expected to be a highly competitive holiday release period and gives the team more time to refine the experience.
The reboot is also notable for its platform strategy. Unlike previous mainline entries in the franchise, Fable is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, making it the first major entry in the series to launch as a multi-platform title.
With a release date now locked in, players can expect to return to Albion on February 23, 2027, when Fable arrives on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
