Gears of War: E-Day Confirmed as Xbox Console Exclusive, Launches October 6

Microsoft has officially confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will be an Xbox console exclusive when it launches on October 6, 2026.

The announcement came alongside a new gameplay showcase, which provided fans with an extended look at the upcoming third-person shooter and revealed its release date. Microsoft confirmed that the game will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with day-one availability through Xbox Game Pass.

The platform announcement is particularly noteworthy given recent speculation surrounding a potential PlayStation 5 version. Earlier this month, industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed that Gears of War: E-Day had at one point been planned for Sony’s console before Microsoft reportedly changed course.

Speaking on a podcast, Grubb said, “I’ll say it here: Gears of War: E-Day was gonna be on PS5, it’s not anymore. That just happened, that’s a decision that just got made.”

According to Grubb, the alleged decision reflected a broader reassessment of Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy. However, neither Microsoft nor Xbox Game Studios commented on those claims at the time.

With the game’s official platform announcement now confirmed, Gears of War: E-Day is set to release exclusively on Xbox consoles alongside PC. Microsoft has not announced any plans for a PlayStation 5 version.

Developed by The Coalition in partnership with People Can Fly, Gears of War: E-Day serves as a prequel to the original Gears of War. The story takes place fourteen years before the events of the 2006 game and follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as they witness the devastating emergence of the Locust Horde on Sera.

The title is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Game Pass subscribers receiving access on day one.
