Final Fantasy VII Rebirth File Size and Pre-Load Date Revealed; Here’s How It Compares To Others

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the most anticipated games of the year as a PS5 console exclusive, it also comes with a massive file size.

The game is set to launch on February 29, making it a unique date because it is a leap year. Square Enix is also putting a lot of muscle behind the marketing for the game. As anticipation around the game is building, we have an idea of the estimated file size and pre-load date.

Given that most games usually are available to pre-load two days before the official launch, it appears that the same will be true for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

According to the PlayStationGameSize Twitter account, which keeps track of game file size for both PS4 and PS5 games, the file size of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is around 145.250 GB.

For comparison’s sake, Final Fantasy VII Remake was 79.93 GB on PS4 while Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was 75.75 GB. This means that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is almost twice the size of the original release. It is one of the biggest games in terms of file size, at least on the PS5. The Call of Duty series usually has a large file size but they also bundle multiplayer and single-player components, including Call of Duty Warzone.

While the file size is indeed large, this could point towards the game using pre-rendered cinematics, which is a staple for the franchise. Final Fantasy XVI also had pre-rendered cinematics but the full size of the game weighed 88.39 GB.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Download Size

  • PS5: 145.250 GB (version 1.001.000)

Pre-Load Date

  • February 27, 2024, at Midnight

The game should be available to play on its release day, February 29. Since the file size is quite large, it is best to download it ahead of launch otherwise 145 GB is not small by any means.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. While it was initially assumed that the Remake of Final Fantasy VII would basically revamp the original game with improved visuals, the scope and design of the project have evolved leading to a completely new story with the possibilities of new beginnings for the franchise.
