The length of the main story in Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is around 50 hours, while completionists will be required to spend up to 100 hours in order to complete every activity that the game has to offer.
Speaking during an interview with BBC, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that, in terms of length, just doing the main story alone will take around 40 to 50 hours to complete.
According to Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has tons of side content and places to explore. He added that there’s actually more side content here than there is main story content. For completionists who will try to do everything, dig deep, explore the world and find everything, the game’s length will easily be around 100 hours.
Additionally, regarding Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s open world, Hamaguchi stated that, unlike The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it won’t be a “go anywhere you want, do anything you want” style of game from the very beginning. The game will feature large, open-world areas that open up as you make progress in the main story. As areas open up, the world will work as a single space, with all of the towns, dungeons, and other spaces linked together seamlessly.
Previously, on the subject of key story events, Creative Director, Tetsuya Nomura, mentioned during an earlier interview that the date episode from the original is included in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. However, he didn’t reveal who you can date, as that would be a spoiler. He did mention that dating is not restricted to the opposite gender, and that the development team has built a lot of new elements into this aspect. Additionally, Nomura mentioned that, during development, there was a point when it was decided that Sephiroth wouldn’t be a playable character. However, since this was a valuable chance to play as the iconic character, Nomura asked the development team to feature him as a playable character.
