Details regarding the release of both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster have been revealed via a brand new leak.
Former Reset Era member Im A Hero Too, who had previously leaked information regarding several Japanese games that are in development, shared details regarding the release of both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster before mysteriously disappearing from the forum. According to him, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is slated for release in January, 2024. He added that Zack is featured as a playable character, and that Square Enix has shown only a tiny portion of the game.
Furthermore, he mentioned that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a “massive” game, though the world map comprises of zones that are smaller than the ones seen in Final Fantas XVI. As per him, the battle system is still “sublime”. Based on his guess, around 50% of the game’s story takes a completely new direction compared to the 1997 original.
According to Im A Hero Too, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is not as “meta” as Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it’s definitely taking a brand new direction with lots of callbacks for diehard fans.
Regarding the release of the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, he stated that it is probably set for release before the Final Fantasy IX remake. The latter is reportedly set to retain the traditional turn-based combat from the original game. Speaking during a recent episode of Game Mess Mornings, host Jeff Grubb, who is known for his sources within the video game industry, stated that the rumored Final Fantasy IX is real and that it will retain the classic turn-based combat seen in the original.
Grubb said that he heard about the existence of the project very recently. On the subject of whether Final Fantasy IX remake would feature a shift towards a more real-time combat system much like in Final Fantasy VII Remake, he stated that the former would almost certainly not be as ambitious a remake as the latter. In terms of ambition, he categorized the project as being somewhere between Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Additionally, the aforementioned Reset Era member had also mentioned that the remake will feature traditional gameplay that is closer to the original.
