The development team behind Part 3 of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will put all effort in order to bring the game to more players.
Famitsu (via Genki_JPN on Twitter/X) has returned with its annual end-of-the-year feature, where it interviews well-known people from the game industry for their end-of-the-year comments on the game that has grabbed their attention, the projects they’re currently involved with, and their aspirations for the coming year. Among the prominent voices this year are Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy developers Yoshinori Kitase (Producer) and Naoki Hamaguchi (Director), both of whom shared a clear and unified vision for part 3.
As the Final Fantasy VII Remake project approaches its conclusion, Kitase talked about having the goal of ensuring that as many people as possible can experience the trilogy. With Part 3 in development, the team is putting focus on accessibility and reach, making sure that the series resonates not only with longtime fans, but also with new players discovering the series for the very first time.
This philosophy is already reflected in the team’s current work. Kitase highlighted the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the origin point of the Remake project, which is scheduled to launch on January 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. With this release, Square Enix is positioning Final Fantasy VII Remake as a fully multi-platform experience, removing barriers that previously limited where and how players could engage with the story.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi echoed Kitase’s sentiments while expanding on the overall strategy for the franchise. Looking ahead to 2026, he described it as a pivotal year for maximizing the value of the Final Fantasy VII brand and strengthening Square Enix’s multi-platform development efforts. As the trilogy reaches its conclusion, he reaffirmed the team’s commitment to delivering the game to more players than ever before, while ensuring it remains cherished for years to come.
Hamaguchi also stressed the importance of innovation, noting that the team will continue to pursue new challenges that allow players to experience the world of Final Fantasy VII in deeper and more expansive ways. Like Kitase, he pointed to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 as a key milestone, making it the moment when the story becomes playable across all major platforms.
